Mark Mathews/Independent-Messenger If you knew Charles Easter when he was young, you are probably not surprised he has a stake in ownership in Emporia’s newest florist shop. Last week G’s Florist celebrated a grand opening and directly following hosted a reception and open house with food and beverages for the community. The ribbon-cutting and reception were in honor of Easter’s grandparents Robert and Pernell Carpenter, Walter and Nancy Easter, and George and Sarah Franklin. He said it was his grandparents that told him that God was the one who gave him the gift with his hands. Gloria Franklin, Easter’s mother, asked him where his gift came from? He said it was a gift from God. It inspired him to name the business G’s Florist. “I want to bless someone else,” Easter said. “I want to help other people. They don’t have $300 or $400 to throw away. I want to do business in a way I can be a blessing and still stay in business.” G’s Florist is located at 304 North Main St. in the old Clay Home Medical Building. The business is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Donald Allen is the co-owner of the business. The staff members are Barbara Malone, Tabitha Newton, and Marcus Taylor. “I’ve always been fascinated with flowers, Easter said. “My grandfather, Walter Easter, would take me with him to Barnes’ Funeral Home.
