The New San Francisco Flower Market is Open
At the start of this year, Mayesh proudly joined in celebrating the grand opening of the new San Francisco Flower Market (SFFM) facility, marking a transformative moment for the West Coast floral industry.
Patrick Dahlson, CEO of Mayesh Wholesale, highlighted the significance of this milestone: “The new San Francisco Flower Market is like a fresh bouquet—vibrant, inspiring, and full of possibility. San Francisco has always been a jewel of the state, as far as being a flower-consuming and flower-producing area. This innovative facility reflects that legacy while embracing the future of the floral industry.”
Located at 901 16th Street in Potrero Hill, the state-of-the-art wholesale facility represents a bold evolution in the market’s 100-plus-year history. The new location features enhanced operational capabilities and sustainable design elements that align with Mayesh’s commitment to environmental stewardship and industry innovation.
A key aspect of this transition is the San Francisco Flower Market’s nonprofit status, operating as a supporting organization to the SF Produce Market, a well-established nonprofit in the city. This partnership strengthens the wholesale distribution of fresh, locally grown products—both floral and agricultural—within San Francisco. The collaboration ensures the long-term sustainability and accessibility of fresh product distribution for florists, grocers, and small businesses, reinforcing the city’s commitment to maintaining a centralized wholesale market district.
The facility houses approximately 22 diverse vendors, including Mayesh, along with other leading floral and foliage producers/suppliers, creating an upgraded experience for wholesale buyers, florists, and designers. This development strengthens Northern California’s position as a crucial hub for the floral industry while supporting the market’s transition to a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing floral agriculture in the region.

Beyond its role as a wholesale hub, the new facility incorporates forward-thinking sustainability initiatives. The project repurposed five 100-year-old structures, reducing embodied carbon while preserving key architectural features such as natural lighting and long spans. The market was designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification and complies with San Francisco’s Green Building Ordinance, incorporating energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, and a 469 kW rooftop solar array projected to generate significant renewable energy. Additional sustainability efforts include a 30,000-gallon stormwater cistern for irrigation and non-potable use, high-recycled-content materials, and provisions for future electric vehicle charging stations.
As a long-standing partner in the floral community, Mayesh Wholesale Florist commends the San Francisco Flower Market’s vision for the future, including its initiatives in floral education and industry leadership development such as local school agriculture programs, mentorship opportunities, and launch initiatives between growers and designers. These programs complement Mayesh’s own commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation within the floral industry.
The new San Francisco Flower Market facility represents more than a physical relocation; it embodies the evolution of the floral industry and promises to serve as a cornerstone of Northern California’s floral community for generations to come.
