The Poinsettia Christmas Mouse from Selecta one wins the Glazen Tulp Award 2020 in the category ‘Flowering houseplants’. At the international award ceremony on the evening of 16th January 2020, the best market introductions in different categories were honored.

The Glass Tulips 2020 were awarded to five ‘real innovators’, according to the organizer Royal FloraHolland – the organisation behind the worldwide leading market place in flowers and plants. And 2020, Selecta’s breeding Christmas Mouse is one of them. By way of a public voting the variety was nominated for the shortlist.

The slightly different Poinsettia with red round leaves and its success story, which started with the last season as awarded IPM novelty, finally convinced the expert jury: “Something else entirely! The round shapes of the leaf are fantastic. After 35 years, a true improvement for the Poinsettia.” (from the jury rapport).

Ton de Bresser, sales area manager at Selecta Holland, and the two Poinsettia producers Piet Kuivenhoven from Kuivenhoven Poeldijk and Chris Endhoven from Endhoven Flowering Plants BV received the award happily. “Our Mouse is the big seller of the last season! Everyone is impressed – a slightly different red Poinsettia, which catches the eye at the POS with the suitable decoration. Sales are good and demand is growing. We are already looking forward positively to the next season. We are really happy about the award and would like to thank all participants and the jury,” says de Bresser.

The Glazen Tulp Award is an international, Oscar-worthy award for the best market introduction in the categories Cut Flowers, Concepts, Green Houseplants, Flowering Houseplants and Garden Plants. The jury of the Glazen Tulp Award consists of customers of Royal FloraHolland and other specialists of the flower industry.
