Bill Prescott, Sun Valley Floral Farms, gives Valentine’s Day update:

“Tulip, lily, and iris sales are strong”

How is the Valentine’s season going so far in California? Bill Prescott, Director of Sales and Marketing at Sun Valley Floral Farms, reports strong sales, particularly for tulips, lily and Iris.

“The lily market has really tightened up for us; tulips are getting tighter, but we are still able to offer some upside to our customers.” Prescott continues, “Blue iris are continuing a great run of popularity, as a spring consumer bunch pairing with matricaria, tulips, hyacinth or in straight bunches. Additionally, this year, our Butterfly Ranunculus crop is here for Valentine’s Day, so we are happy to take those orders now and continue fulfillment through June.”

According to Prescott, the weather in California has been wet, but this has also brought warm temperatures, bringing the crops in right on time. “We are used to wet winters, so this hasn’t hindered any production. We also see clear transportation lines out of California, so we are able to avoid the bottleneck in Miami.”

All in all, Prescott is very pleased with this year’s Valentine’s Day season. “It is shaping up really nicely. If buyers still need stems to have a successful holiday, they can always reach out to us, and we will see how we can help.”
